How To Upgrade your CH80 To Go Faster
So we want to upgrade our CH80's to go faster! Who doesn't? I'm not 100% sure how to do this, so I need some community involvement.
If your bike is running extremely slow (like sub 35) then I would check the basics. You need to purchase
some calipers (worth it, I've used mine a TON). Calipers allow you to measure very small things my the millimeter or inch. The first thing I would check is your drive belt. Make sure it is not worn and in need of being replaced. You can do this by popping off the side that covers your drivebelt and taking out the belt. There are good directions in the service manual for doing this. You have to compress the clutch using your hands and then pull it off the front pulley first. It is a pretty easy procedure. Just follow the service manual.
While you are in there I would check the clutch to see if it is worn and needs to be replaced. You will either need something to hold the back wheel still (brake usually isn't enough) or a impact wrench. I used an impact wrench and zipped the rear clutch cover off in no time. Once this is off you can see the clutch pads. Using the caliper you can measure the tolerances and match them up with the service manual. If all this is up to par and you still aren't getting the speed you want then keep reading.
The following information is all guess work. I've read a lot about other scooters and how they mod them and have been able to make some assumptions. The first thing I would try to replace is the variater. It is the front part of where the drive belt goes around. This thing determines how fast your acceleration is. It has rollers which are interchangeable and the weight of these rollers decide how fast the variater is going to tighten up the belt to make it start going. You can see a video of the variater working its magic below.
